Story & Premise
The Dark Moon, a mystical celestial body hovering over Evershade Valley that keeps local ghosts friendly, is shattered into pieces by King Boo. The once-peaceful ghosts become unruly, causing chaos across the region. Professor E. Gadd summons the reluctant, easily spooked Luigi to retrieve the Dark Moon fragments and restore peace.
Core Gameplay & Mechanics
-
The Poltergust 5000: Armed with E. Gadd’s custom vacuum cleaner, Luigi can suck up ghosts, pull levers, grab distant objects, and vacuum away dust and cobwebs.
-
Strobulbs & Dark-Light Device: Flash your Strobulb light to stun ghosts before reeling them in. Use the Dark-Light Device to reveal hidden objects, invisible furniture, and illusions left by trickster ghosts.
-
Mission-Based Progression: Unlike the open hotel structure of Luigi's Mansion 3, this installment uses a mission-based structure. Players choose specific missions from Professor E. Gadd’s bunker to explore individual areas, gather clues, and clear objectives.
-
Multiple Unique Mansions: Instead of just one house, Luigi explores five themed locations across Evershade Valley—including a overgrown botanical lab, a sprawling clock factory, and an icy mine.
Multiplayer: The ScareScraper
Beyond the main single-player campaign, Luigi's Mansion 2 HD features the ScareScraper (known as the Thrill Tower in some regions), a co-op mode for up to four players locally or online:
-
Hunter Mode: Teams work together to clear every ghost on a floor before the time runs out.
-
Rush Mode: A frantic dash to locate the exit hatch on each floor before the timer hits zero.
-
Polterpup Mode: Track down and capture invisible ghostly puppies (Polterpups) using your Dark-Light Device.
Switch Enhancements vs. 3DS Original
-
HD Visual Overhaul: Upgraded character models, improved lighting effects, and crisp high-definition environments tailored for television and handheld screens.
-
Single-Screen & Controller Layout: Dual-screen touch mechanics from the 3DS have been redesigned for standard Switch controllers (Joy-Con / Pro Controller) with full analog stick camera management.
-
Convenient Co-op: Online and local wireless multiplayer no longer requires Download Play, allowing smooth connectivity via Nintendo Switch Online.
